Orc Warbus

No photo this time. Instead I treat you to a video of the latest miniature I painted. This is an Orc Warbus from Puppetswar.eu.

Huron Blackheart

Kindly given to me by one of my gaming group buddies, this is the finecast version of Huron Blackheart. Again I've tried more non metallic golds and silvers on his armour. I'm fairly happy with the results and overall I am happy with the paint job. The only downside is that I lost his thumb!

Huron Blackheart

I know I've been very quiet on the blog lately but I have been painting a lot. I have some Custodes part painted, some Pink Horrors for my Daemons which are nearly finished and I have finished my Nurgle Bikes for my Chaos army.

Painted Custodes Dreadnought

My Custodes Dreadnought is now painted and can take his place alongside the Dreadknight.

Painted Custodes Dreadknight

I have finished painting my dreadknight for my Custodes army. Not a lot to say really. There's a lot of silver and gold so it wasn't the most exciting mini I've ever painted but i'm happy with the outcome.

Armour Right Through The Ages

Here's my maybe a bit expensive, and probably unlikely in fluff terms, Sternguard squad. They are made of each armour mark of Space Marine from MKI to MKVIII. The MKVIII is probably the most interesting as there isn't really much parts available for this armour type. I used the shoulder pads from the company champion in the command squad set to match the MKVIII photo from Imperial Armour 10 as well as the well known MKVIII torso from the tactical squad. The metal parts on the MKVII and MKVIII marine are from the Crimson fist conversion set with the exception of the metal boltgun. Of course MKII - MK-VI armour types are from Forgeworld and the MKI is from the armour through the ages set.

Black Legion Chaos Lord

I've always liked this Chaos Lord model since GW released it many years ago. I can still remember when it first came out and there were several different awesome looking painted versions in White Dwarf. I used to own this model years ago but sold it along with most of my old Chaos army from 3rd Edition. Now that I'm back collecting chaos again I knew I had to buy him again so I soon went to eBay and picked up a nice unpainted metal version for cheap. He's not available in finecast as I write this and to be honest I doubt he ever will be.

Onto the model itself. I painting him in my armies colours, which as you can see they are Black Legion. I've tried to use NMM here on the gold and silver. I'm still learning this very tricky technique but I find on small amounts of metal such as on this model you can just about get away with not being very good. It's hard to see from this image but there is quite a bit of battle damage on the marine helmets and little bits and pieces on the chaos lord too. This was done by painting the battle damaged areas silver before they have the basecoat then carefully scraping away the paint from the base coat where you want the damage to be.

I'm Back! Custodes Dreadknight

So I'm finally back. Although not fully set up for painting or gaming just yet I have began building again and my first creation is this Dreadknight for my Custodes army.

Slight Hiatus

There wont be much in the way of wargaming for me over the next few weeks. I'm currently renovating my new house so my free time will be very limited, especially when trying to run Bitzbox and Wargamer's World at the same time!

Sisters of Silence

Along with my Custodes, I want a small squad of Sisters of Silence which I plan to use as Death Cult Assassins. I found a tutorial on the Interwebs which showed a really neat way of making easy Sisters of Silence.

What I've used here is the mouthpiece from an old Dark Eldar warrior and turned it upside down for the bottom of the helmets, the top half of the head is also a dark eldar warrior, as is the torso. The legs are from the new Dark Eldar Wyches. All the weapons are from the empire range, mostly the Empire Militia. The little bolt pistols are from the rogue trader space marines. I still need to touch up the GS work.

Dipping Tyranids

You remember a few months ago I did an article on quickly painting Nids with washes. Well I've tried another method for the first time now which is dipping. If you've never come across dipping before, you basically paint the basecoat colours of the model then dip them in a dipping solution. In this case it's Army Painters Quick Shade.

Here are the results:

I'm not a huge fan of this method but it does look quite nice on the bleached bone. Certainly useful for painting up a load of bugs quickly.

Look Big Daddy, There's Regular Daddy

I've seen a couple of conversions floating about the Internet of Ork Meganobz being converted up like the Big Daddy from the Bioshock series of games. I had to make my own and have so far made and painted two out of the three I plan to make.

These are actually quite simple conversions. They use the Ork Meganobz body and right arm. The head is made from a part from The Empire Mortar and a Chaos Space Marine Vehicle Searchlight. The other arm is from a plastic ork nob and uses the Drill from the Killa Kan box.

Nurgle's Rot

So I've pretty much finished my other plague marine squad now. The bikers are also 50% done and I will finish them off when I finish off a couple of other models I'm working on.

I am undecided what to do with the banner at the moment. I would love to have some sort of free hand design on there. I may give it a go in the near future!

Vindicare Assassin Conversion

For my Custodes Army I will be offering some fire support from a Vindicare Assassin. A good friend of mine was kind enough to give me one as a reward for helping him out with some web design so I got to work on him to give him a scenic base and a new pose.

The other 3 Noise Marines

My squad of 6 Noise Marines and Rhino is now complete with the addition of these 3 bad boys. I must say I didn't enjoy painting these 3 as much as the first 3 and it shows in the quality. At some point I may go back to these and touch them up with more highlights and detail but for now I will leave them how they are.

Tower of Skulls Painting Update

So it's been a while since I last posted but I find it very difficult to paint whilst the sun is shining outside. However before this nice weather came along I did start painting some parts of the Tower of Skulls.

I have painted all the regular colour skulls and next up will be the gold and silver skulls on the decoration. You may also notice that one set of spikes decided to fall off.

My First Custodes Models

These are a few Custodes models I have converted up to use with the new Grey Knights codex. They are made from models from Scibor Miniatures and Grey Knight parts.

I will be painting a small army of these along with my Emperor Model once I have finished painting my Chaos Space Marine Army.

Painted Fulgrim Miniature

This is an awesome model of Fulgrim, Primarch of The Emperors Children. I've had this model sitting around for sometime but have not painted him up. Until now...

The NMM is improving with each model and I've decided on a nice pallette of colours which I used on this model.

His base is quite basic, I wanted to paint it in a marble style but that's too difficult for me. Maybe after lots of practise I'll come back to it.

More NMM Gold Progress and another Primarch

I have been practising NMM gold even more recently and have changed my pallette so it looks less orange/yellow and more brown/gold as it should. The results are a lot better than my previous attempts. Below you can see a torso I practised on as well as part of my Fulgrim model which I've recently started painting.

I may write a tutorial for the gold when I perfect it a bit more. As for Fulgrim I wanted a break from what I've been working on and I couldn't resist painting some NMM gold on that big eagle on his shoulder. Expect to see him finished in my next blog post.

A little bit of NMM practice

So I'm still trying my hand at gold NMM. I have converted this Custode model, based on Dave Taylors test Custode model. I am still trying to get my head around the light sources but I'm getting better with my blending techniques.

The Emperor and Horus

I purchased this model of The Emperor from eBay a while back. His sword was quite bent and his eagle wing had snapped so I replaced with suitable parts. I would love to get really good at NMM so I can paint him up to look really...urm.. good.

I also decided to convert up a model of the Warmaster Horus using mainly plastic parts and green stuff. He is only basecoated so far but hopefully I will get him painted up in the near future.

A few more Noise Marines

Here are the other few Noise Marines that I'll be painting up to finish the squad. They are pretty much just standard Noise Marine models with a couple of MkIV parts added.

Noise Marine Rhino

I'm still going through a bit of a painting slump, however I have managed to paint up this rhino for my Noise Marine Squad. I have used plastic tubes for the organ. Also this rhino uses the MKI Rhino doors from Chapter House Studios.

I've used the same colours as I used on my Noise Marines, the mithril silver having a wash of blue and the golds being painted in browns and yellow to make them seem brighter. I've always used turquiose on the demon face on the combi bolter.

Khorne Tower of Skulls - Part 4

It's update time! The skull road is a lovely piece. I still want to add more spikes, icons and skulls to this tank before I start work painting it.

Dark Noise

It's been a while and I've had these photos for a bit. These are the first 3 Noise Marines in my squad. They are almost finished and the pics are a bit dark but you can sort of see the effects I am going for on them. Their silver metal has a blue tint to it and the golds are done in a yellow/brown combo to make these look bright (ironic due to the dark photos I know)

Khorne Tower of Skulls - Part 3

Just a small update. I've made a very makeshift looking cannon. You wont see most of it thankfully. It's made out of a bottle, a part of a stormlord cannon, some tube and a leg plate from a Soul Grinder.

I have also added some of the autocannons from the Imperial Strongpoint set to represnt the skull reaper cannons and the other havoc missile launcher is on. These will count as the doomfire cannons.

Khorne Tower of Skulls Part 2

So I've done a little bit more work on this beast. The front of the tower is on as well as a few other little details such as FW brass. I'm waiting for a few more parts to arrive in the post over thenext week or so before I can make more progress.

Khorne Tower of Skulls Part 1

I've not really been in the painting mood over the last few days and felt the urge to do yet more building. Something I've wanted to make for a long time is a Khorne Tower of Skulls. I've made a small start on one. So far it's just a basic baneblade chassis with a FW Khorne Icon on the front.

On the battlefield!

You've seen all these wonderful models of mine *cough* but what about their performance on the battlefield? Well today I played a 1250 point mission with my chaos. The mission was one from the 40k radio campaign. I found the mission very enjoyable and due to my opponents really bad dice rolling, I won!

So here are some pics from the front line. The missions uses no terrain apart from the central building but we had a road which we made no use of.

My damon prince hiding behind a bastion ready to pounce.

My bikes and noise marines managed to eventually kill the assault terminators. In an epic combat that later included veterans and lasted 3 turns.

My daemon prince was definatly man of the match, killing two tactical squads in combat. That's two out of the three scoring units dealt with.

Wondering how my noise marines survived in combat against the terminators and veterans. One turn they caused 11 wounds. I saved 10!

My soul grinder is filling in as a defiler until I make one. He had great joy helping my daemon prince eat the second tactical squad.
